What is a friend really?

Like can you really be someone's friend if you aren't disclosing things that you know that could hurt? Or do you say something?

I'm feeling very unsettled now, very disconnected from people because I don't know what is my place. What's ok and what's not.

I still haven't written anything . . . grumble

perhaps it's time for us to start saying what we mean, when we mean it, how we mean it. (love!)

hey honey, from a friend who has been a friend on all sides of that equation, it is ALWAYS better to know that not know. and i believe it to be a friend's responsibility to peep and communicate game even if someone might get hurt in the process.

it is not going to be easy or cute or fun but bringing the truth to light in the name of friendship is an incredibly important responsibility. otherwise it's just "keeping the peace" when there really isn't peace to keep in the first place.

and i'm not saying this in the sense of tattletale, especially if you're friends with everyone involved, but make sure that you're honest and true and let folks know without getting in the middle of it. be in your heart, move slowly and deal with kid gloves.

i think about some times that friends didn't tell me the whole truth and it all just turned out shittier in the end. and i think of times where friends saved my ass when i was acting up by not busting me up. at the same time, they also held me accountable for my actions and reminded me of my responsibility in the situation. either way, if you know something, please don't sit back and watch the car crash.

i know it's hard but you'll figure it out. be gentle with yourself.

love u.

hello moya, i didn't know how else to contact you so I decided to post a comment. i was given your name by Rachel R in MN. I'm currently working on a VH1 News special tentatively titled Hip Hop Casting. Rachel said that you might have been an organizer of the Nelly protests that took place at Spellman College last year. I'm looking to get more information. Please contact me at lori.williamson@vh1staff.com.
Thanks in advance.

it is a tough situation, but it's easier with honesty (i think). it takes a cetain amount of courage, but i guess one should have faith in their convictions and the depth of the friendship. real friends may get pissy or even hurt, but if they care about you and know that you are acting out of love for them, then they will come around. the friendship will be stronger for it. that's my take. i wish you strength and clarity for the situation.

pace.
