when keeping it real goes . . . right?

I've been telling people in my life to check me. I want people in my life to call me out when I'm not on my work like I should be. I want to be in community with people who want to be checked too. not hostilely or cruelly but from a place of clarity and a genuine desire to offer assistance when you know someone is potentially hurting themselves or others. So i've asked people to sign up and some have and it's been humbling. It can be painful to hear others speak on things you thought you'd concealed quite nicely or things you claim but don't necessarily practice.

it's got me thinking about the work of the world again and that old ass phrase that i've yet to internalize that the revolution begins with self. Been feeling like that girl in t-leg's poem that's out in the street instead of doing the work she needs to do at home.

i'm on the brink of breakthrough, just need a little nudge over the edge.

greetings, mb....
my name is kelly and i have been checking for your blog for a while now. forgive me, but this is my 1st comment. but i had to post on this entry because i also yearn to be checked. i think we (let me say "I") have been used to associating being "checked" by someone as being a bad thing. being checked can come and should come from a healthy place. but sometimes it doesn't. i often ask friends of mine to do this....not to stroke my ego...or not challenge me. i hope they know that this type of exchange is welcomed. i hope your checking continues...

stop by when time permits....

peace,
kellz

check me! please ms. moya. i think somehow i have come to believe checking people is unfriendly but friends don't let friends act a fool.

here's to being bout it bout it!!

luv, jb

i should preface this request by saying if strangers come to my blog and try and check me its gonna be a misunderstanding. seriously.

i believe in being checked, too. good for you, mb, for being proactive about that shit.

(if anyone would like to check and/or monitor me it'd be greatly appreciated. i don't have no money, but i do have a fat ass sneaker discount to pay for your services.)

would that i could be so brave...
i am usually checked by the universe, and that shit takes a lot more out of you than a homie tapping you on the shoulder telling you to get right. that's probably a good way to go (albeit more confrontational)...
i remember that poem too - came from a very real place...
yes, i would that i were so brave...

love, always...
